Stage 1 Cricket

The previous Super 7's/8's and Under 10 age groups are now called Stage 1, to align with the the Australian Cricket Pathway.

The Stage 1 format is for boys and girls generally aged between seven and nine years (girls can be up to 11 years of age). That is, players who would have played in what was the previous Super 7s/8s or Under 10s will now play in Stage 1.

The players will be placed into divisions based on skill level rather than age to ensure children are playing against players of similar ability.

Stage 1 cricket is for players who have reached a basic skill level in batting and bowling (i.e. players must be able to bowl on the pitch without throwing).

The focus is on participation.

Stage 1 involves teams of seven or eight players. The pitch length is 16m and the traditional Under 10 ball is used. All games are 20 overs and last for a maximum of one and a half hours.

Games are played on Saturday mornings, and may be from 8.00am to 9.30am or from 10.00am to 11.30am.

There are nine games in the pre-Christmas season (starting Saturday, 13 October).

Souths will field a girls' team and also mixed teams, subject to numbers.

Clothing and equipment

Players require their own cricket protector (box), wide brimmed hat, and white shirt and shorts/trousers. All other equipment is provided in the team kit.

Training for Stage 1 players will be on Thursdays from 4.30pm to 6.00pm at South Brisbane District Cricket Club (starting Thursday, 30 August 2018). Parent participation at training is encouraged.
